Mother’s Day is fast approaching. (We hope your calendar is marked for Sunday, May 11!) This is the perfect opportunity to thank Mom for how much she's endured over the years with a spa treatment or a special meal. Here, a list of thoughtful Bay Area ideas to get you started.
Spa at Loews Regency

In addition to the regular menu, guests can enjoy special brunch dishes from 1760's executive chef Adam Tortosa on Mother's Day. Dishes include French toast with roasted strawberries and whipped creme fraiche; fried egg sandwich with basil aioli and smashed avocado; lollipop kale with guanciale and a 63-degree egg; and avocado toast with parsley, lime and biber pepper. Bar manager Christopher Longoria will also mix special brunch cocktails for the day, including a green strawberry bloody Mary. 11:30 am-3 pm.
Burritt Room + Tavern
If Mother's Day brunch isn't your thing, get Mom and the family together for dinner at Burritt Room + Tavern. Indulge in signature dishes from chef Luke Knox like the sourdough pancake with Brussels sprouts, creamy parmesan risotto and tombo tuna salad. Chef Luke will gift hand-selected cherry tomato, haricot vert and pea plants to moms for use in their own kitchens. The Charlie-Palmer-owned restaurant will also be mixing up the Mamma Mia! cocktail on May 11, made with vodka, Contreau, amaro, lemon juice and Champagne. 5 pm-close.
If Mom likes her cocktails, you're in luck because this SoMa District bar celebrates Mother’s Day all week long with the Breakfast in Bed cocktail, a delightful mix of Aperol, lime and mint topped with Prosecco, served in a fancy Champagne flute. Southside’s famous Maiden Lane is another delicious cocktail, made with bourbon, strawberries, Canton, fresh lemon juice and ginger beer. Other sparklers include Charles Heidseick Brut Reserve and Rose Reserve Champagne ($99 a bottle) and Secco Italian Bubbles 2012 from Veneto Prosecco ($10 a glass).
Celebrate Mother’s Day in the Marina at A16 with a special a la carte menu featuring festive, occasion-appropriate dishes and beverages. After the meal, moms take home flowers. Lunch 11 am-2:30 pm; dinner 5 -10 pm.
Join Chaya Brasserie for Mother’s Day brunch: a delicious three-course chef selection menu for $45 with $12 bottomless mimosas. Dishes include the Castelle French toast with caramelized banana, almonds and fresh fruits as well as the Dungeness crab Benedict with avocado, miso hollandaise and home fries. For dessert, try the salted caramel ice cream sandwiches or the warm chocolate croissant bread pudding with caramel ice cream. Young diners can enjoy a special $15 prix fixe menu that includes an entrée and a dessert.

Top of the Mark celebrates moms and its official diamond anniversary on May 11, having opened 75 years ago to the day. As the landmark's anniversary coincides with the 100th anniversary of Mother’s Day, executive chef Nenad Stefanovic presents a delicious buffet that includes a raw bar, carving station, salads, entrees, breakfast and desserts along with limitless mimosas and entertainment by pianist Michael Athens. The W’s lively restaurant Trace will feature a brunch menu with both healthy and indulgent options, including monkey bread with spiced maple syrup; pecan and almond granola with Straus organic yogurt; warm whole oat groats; and scrambled egg whites with asparagus, maitake, celery root and whole grain mustard, with walnut bread and soy breakfast sausage. Each guest also receives a complimentary sample-size juice of their choice from Trace’s new line of freshly squeezed juices. Flavors include iced chai, raspberry orange mint and green juice. And moms take home a surprise package upon departure that includes Bliss Spa products, a jar of Trace rooftop honey and more.

Half Moon Bay Brewing Company
Moms drink beer, too! The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is a favorite destination for families on the San Mateo Coast. This Mother’s Day treat mom to some fresh beer, delicious seafood and live music while overlooking picturesque Pillar Point Harbor. Jazz great Pamela Rose will be getting moms dancing from 5-9 pm, and mothers will be treated to a decadent chocolate strawberry paired with a taste of the Mavericks Chocolate Pit Stop Porter (limited quantities). Moms who prefer bellinis to beer can choose from three special flavors for $8 each: strawberry, mango and peach. In addition to the regular menu (available from 9 am on Sunday), chef Alfaro has created special additions for Mother’s Day, including a local beet salad and avocado-stuffed sea bass.
In honor of Mother’s Day, Nick’s Cove will showcase the bounty of springtime in West Marin, incorporating the abundance from its small farms and neighboring creameries in a special brunch menu. Dishes include house-smoked California king salmon with corn-potato fritters, dill creme fraiche and fried capers; Dungeness crab Benedict with arugula, avocado and hollandaise; Nick’s Dungeness crab Louie; and Della Fattoria levain panzanella with fresh apple and pear, cinnamon whipped cream and maple gastrique. Pastry chef Fernanda Hurst has created two bright and satisfying desserts especially for Mother’s Day: mascarpone cheesecake with strawberry sauce and a strawberry shortbread cake with vanilla whipped cream and a balsamic glaze.
Bocanova will offer special dishes for Mother’s Day, such as a crab Benedict with arepas for brunch and a Stone Valley pork leg with butter beans, poached egg and tomatillo crudo for brunch and dinner.
Take mom to the East Bay this Mother’s Day holiday for a special a la carte menu by chef Rocky Maselli. Enjoy classic A16 Rockridge fare or sample new dishes created for the day.
