On the Waterfront, Fast and Fresh

We lucky kama‘aina (locals) have a grand time going green, especially when it comes to eating fresh and local. Take, for example, the furikake pan-seared ‘ahi with ginger-garlic cilantro sauce at Nico’s Pier 38. The fish couldn’t get any fresher: Chef Nico himself greets the 5:30-am bell at the Honolulu Fish Auction. Purists order this fish rare and may choose ‘Nalo Greens over the mac salad, making it other than a classic plate lunch. In 2011, Nico’s won Honolulu Magazine’s Hale Aina award for Best Seafood—not bad for a place with plastic furniture down by the piers.
