Fiola Mare: Seafood Haven at the Harbor

Chef Fabio Trabocchi's new venue for sophisticated waterside dining

Fabio and Maria Trabocchi have found their dream spot, a span of Georgetown real estate with nothing between their site and the Potomac River but a promenade for strollers. And only a few weeks ago, the couple installed Fiola Mare, a glam setting for sophisticated focus on seafood.

First visit highlights: Nantucket Bay scallops with black truffle, ahi tuna carpaccio on grilled crescia, pasta with prawns and sea urchins, oyster “shooter” parfait with caviar, baba al rhum with hazelnuts and a chocolate terrine with pistachios. Other assets: a valet at the door, pick-your-fish counter, large patio, 20-seat bar and smart sommelier Bryan Smith.

Even as Casa Luca and Fiola, Fabio’s landlocked, downtown restaurants, continue to serve (respectively) their osteria and upscale Italian fare, the James Beard winner intends to soothe his soul with glimpses of water, recalling a childhood by the Adriatic Sea.
