About Face: Portraits of Power at AMA's F Street Gallery

At the HQ of the Organization of American States, a photo gallery lined with superimposed portraits

Argentine photographer Alejandro Almaraz portrays a lineage of world leaders by layering their official portraits to make composites. These superimposed portraits, some paintings beneath photographs, line the Art Museum of the Americas F Street Gallery and seem to shift and pop into a third dimension. In the 28 works, some of the subjects express an unflinching authority while others grin with tenderness and approachability. The face of each final power player? Unrecognizable.

Catch the Almaraz exhibition before it leaves town; the last day of the show is Jan. 31, 2014.
