Lincoln Memorial

At the west end of the National Mall, this Greek-style temple to the 16th president holds Daniel Chester French's 19-foot-tall statue of Lincoln and carved inscriptions of his famous speeches. The site is also famous as a gathering spot for protestors, including Martin Luther King Jr., who delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech here in 1963. Open 24 hours. Visitors center daily 8 a.m.-midnight.
