Taberna del Alabardero Celebrates

Cheers to Taberna del Alabardero on the silver anniversary of its Spanish hospitality. This favorite of power folks, diplomats and romantics, the U.S. branch of the Madrid original, was founded by parish priest Don Luis de Lezama as a training ground for “marginal” young men with unrealistic dreams of bullfighting. Today his Grupo Lezama (restaurants and a cooking school) employs 600 people and earns 20 million-plus Euros a year. Savvy Javier Romero (above), his paellas and chocolate sculptures star here.
