Duck the Malls

Gift-buying sprees become festive outings December 3-23. In Penn Quarter, the Downtown Holiday Market opens an old-fashioned “village” (F Street NW between 7th and 9th). Daily noon-8 pm, 180 artisans and crafters hawk seasonal, often handmade gifts (embroidered Kashmiri scarves, handbags from recycled books) and “fuel” (hot cocoa, empanadas), while musicians take to an alfresco stage. At the HQ of Dupont Circle’s WPA, Icebox stocks D.C. artworks ($250 max) weekdays noon-5 pm.
