Prince William Forest Park

Founded during the Great Depression to give city children a nature escape, the 15,000-acre national park has 37 miles of hiking trails, four campgrounds and 100-plus cabins. Park daily sunrise-sunset. Visitor center daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (hours vary seasonally). $3 per individual, $5 per car (good for seven days). Additional fees for camping.
