Just 40 minutes south of Tucson is the historic village of Tubac. It was established in 1752 as the first Spanish fort in Arizona, but now the town is largely populated by working artists. More than 100 galleries—exhibiting everything from wood carvings to oil paintings—fill the quaint streets, and the Tubac Center for the Arts features regional and national art in all media. The Tubac Chamber of Commerce provides visitor guides and a calendar of events.
