Take a Summer Hike to This Hotel Carved Into a Cliff

Keep cool after a hike into Kokopelli's Cave Bed & Breakfast.

Visitors to Farmington, New Mexico, can embed themselves in the earth to keep cool: at Kokopelli's Bed & Breakfast, located 70 feet below the surface, the temperature peaks at 73 degrees.

But since this unique hotel—originally intended to be a geologist's office—was blasted into the side of a mountain, it can only be reached by climbing in, so pack light. The reward for your trek is stunning views of the Four Corners of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado and the La Plata River below.

The 1,700-square-foot cave is filled with Southwest heritage and even includes a Native American kiva replica, the underground room used for spiritual ceremonies.
