Pipilotti Rist: Sip My Ocean

Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, 140 George Street, The Rocks.
11/1/17 to 2/18/18

This summer, dive into a major new exhibition by the pioneering video artist Pipilotti Rist at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Exclusive to Sydney as part of the Sydney International Art Series, “Pipilotti Rist: Sip My Ocean” features the Swiss artist’s kaleidoscopic projections, ground-breaking video art and dazzling immersive environments from the 1980s to present day.

Visitors can take the plunge in her more recent immersive installations. Lay on cushions to gaze up at the underside of a lilypond, meander through a forest of hanging lights or wander through a maze of floating fabric.

Rist was among the first generations of artists who grew up with a television in her lounge room and Rist’s single-channel video works—that have achieved her international acclaim—reveal her as an innovator in her practice. Her work explores the relationship between nature, technology and the body.

Curated by MCA Senior Curator Natasha Bullock, Pipilotti Rist’s work is an ‘ode to the heart and the intellect, to the big emotions that sustain us and the beauty of the world around us.’

Don’t miss the MCA’s summer pop-up bar Colour Fields on the ground floor of the MCA. Decked out in colourful hues inspired by the exhibition and surrounded by sweeping views of Circular Quay, it’s the ultimate spot for a cocktail, bite to eat or a perfect Instagram moment. Keep your Sunday evenings free if you’d like to groove to great music—because local legends Future Classic will play DJ sets as the sun sets.
