La Traviata on Sydney Harbour
Now in its ninth incarnation, Sydney’s outdoor event of the year—Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour—returns to its roots with a lavish new production of Verdi’s “La Traviata”. The story that inspired “Moulin Rouge”, “La Traviata” is the story of Violetta, a courtesan with a heart of gold. When a chance at love presents itself, things begin to change. For this new production, Opera Australia has assembled an all-star cast from Australia and around the world, led by Australian soprano Stacey Alleaume. The drama of this tumultuous tale plays out on one of the world’s most stunning sets: against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour, the over-water stage is hung with a giant, shimmering chandelier. Each night of this performance will be capped off with a spectacular fireworks display.
