The Biennale of Sydney: NIRIN

Various locations
3/14/20 to 6/8/20

A greenhouse where visitors are invited to enter and write their own memories on paper embedded with native seeds; a ceramic sarcophagus moulded from the living body of Sudanese artist Ahmed Umar, representing the coming out about his sexuality that rendered him dead to many family members; a hip hop festival against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour. For the 22nd edition of The Biennale of Sydney—titled “NIRIN”, meaning “edge” in the language of Indigenous artist and artistic director Brook Andrew—Sydney will be taken over by artists far-flung and local, in art galleries both traditional and unconventional.
