Beauty Queen of Leenane at Sydney Opera House
As any adult who has lived with their parents would know, it is not all fun and games. This month, Sydney Theatre Company tackles the first big hit of screenwriter Martin McDonagh, who went on to pen acclaimed films such as “In Bruges” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”. “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” follows Maureen Folan, a small-town Irish woman who lives with Mag, her ageing mother. When Maureen finds her shot at romance and escape, the mother-daughter relationship takes a series of turns that will leave the audience laughing and gasping in equal measure.
