Seattle’s Best Boutiques

Great Independent Boutiques

Seattle is known for its unique, independent spirit. In my extensive experience shopping in the city, I’ve found that this trend even applies to our shopping options. Not only do we have all the big stores like Nordstrom, REI and Macy’s, we also have a whole host of smaller, local boutiques. These small boutiques and shops are a great way to discover new and regional designers, support the local economy and find one-of-a-kind rare treasures and souvenirs. Check out a few of my favorite independent boutiques and see what you find …

This Ballard shop is part gift store and part art gallery. The mix here is really eclectic and features a lot of local artists. There are also work studios in the store, so on the right day and time, you may have the chance to meet the artists and even ask them to do a custom piece for you. I love the photography and handmade cards you can find here, and the silk-screened baby onesies are a great gift for expecting parents. 5408 22nd Ave NW, 206.789.3335,

Located in the quirky Fremont neighborhood, Essenza is one of my favorite places to peruse delicate jewelry from Seattle designers or discover a new, hard-to-find perfume. From fine European bath and body products to comfy loungewear and linens, it’s the ultimate girly shopping experience. 615 N 35th St., 206.547.4895,
