Praça da Sé

In the shadow of the hulking cathedral, this leafy square with tropical trees has been the site of Brazil’s largest public protests. Crowds gathered here in the late 1980s to demand the end to military rule, and in 1992 they demanded the impeachment and resignation of the new Republic’s second elected president, Fernando Collor relating to corruption allegations.
