The Sutro District

This historic portion of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area on the northwest coast of the city includes Sutro Heights Gardens, the Cliff House and Sutro Baths ruins. In the late 19th century, Adolf Sutro transformed this desolate area into a popular resort that featured a 25,000-person swimming facility and museum (later destroyed by fire). Today the spot offers gorgeous ocean views and great hiking.
