SOMA was “settled” by dot-comers, many of whom went bust, but not before they helped turn this area into one of the hippest neighborhoods in the city. Yerba Buena Gardens offers a historic carousel, ice rink, bowling center, Sony Metreon, Zeum, and a great place to soak in the sun (and an outdoor performance or two) while lounging on the grass. Don’t miss the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Follow paths populated by art galleries, über-chic bars and nightclubs, and some of the city’s best restaurants south to China Basin, where new developments and live/work lofts flow around AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.
