San Francisco's Noe Valley Neighborhood: A Shopping Report

An Insider’s Guide to Navigating the City’s Distinctive Retail Zones

San Francisco doesn’t pretend to be a fashion capital like New York or Los Angeles, but our tech-savvy, free-spirited city is home to more fashion bloggers per capita. You’ll also find exceptional shopping here, from an impressive lineup of luxury flagships and department stores to indie and vintage boutiques. We recruited six local style icons to curate a guide to six of San Francisco’s best neighborhoods for browsing and buying.

I live in Twin Peaks, and my close neighbor is Noe Valley. The vibe here is laid-back, homey and family friendly. There are a lot of small businesses, and you’ll find many locals sitting by the sidewalks enjoying a cup of coffee and bagel. One of my favorite things to do is stroll down the 24th Street with my daughters, grab brunch, do a little shopping, get a cupcake at Noe Valley Bakery (the best!) and buy groceries either at the local farmers market or Whole Foods.

When it comes to dressing in this neighborhood, I stick with colors that are more toned down and outfits that are casual but still put together. The focus here is not the latest mainstream designer brands, but rather about the quality and versatility of design and style.
