Marina/Cow Hollow

Bordered by Fort Mason and the Marina Green on the north and the hills of Pacific Heights on the south, these two neighborhoods offer some of the city’s best shopping and dining. Residents here love the outdoors, whether flying kites along the water in Crissy Field or soaking up the sun at one of the plentiful and popular outdoor cafés along the main shopping drags: Union Street (in Cow Hollow, which used to be pasture land for dairy cows) and Chestnut Street (in the Marina). Here you’ll also find the splendid Palace of Fine Arts, left over from the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exhibition, which houses the interactive science museum, the Exploratorium—a fun and educational experience for kids of all ages.
