The cultural center of San Francisco—home to the War Memorial Opera House, Asian Art Museum, Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, numerous theaters, and City Hall— Civic Center is also the original home of the United Nations. City Hall underwent a massive facelift several years ago and is considered one of the finest examples of Beaux Arts architecture in the world. Numerous restaurants serve performance-goers in the neighboring Van Ness corridor and Hayes Valley, which has fast become one of the city’s trendiest shopping districts, offering up wares from around the world, in addition to fabulous cafés and restaurants.
