North Carolina Museum of History
Bright, lively and interactive, this is not one of those boring history museums of days past. Rather, the North Carolina Museum of History presents a colorful side of North Carolina’s history, including permanent exhibits that feature pirates, a 1920s drugstore, No. 3 Chevrolets driven by Junior Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Sr., Carbine Williams' workshop and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. Typically, visitors can see two to three traveling exhibits at any given time.
Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday. The Museum Shop, open during museum hours, offers souvenirs and gifts that reflect the heritage and traditions of North Carolina. Admission is free although donations are accepted. A fee for special exhibits may be incurred.
