Creative play drives Marbles Kids Museum’s popularity with both locals and visitors. Designed for ages 10 and younger, the museum’s offerings have been growing rapidly and are fun and imaginative. Parents like the downtown Raleigh museum because it inspires learning and creativity and is a convenient, indoor location for play dates.
Popular exhibits include “Around Town,” where kids can step into real life roles such as firefighters and doctors in a miniature village, and “Splash,” where experimenting with water is encouraged. Other exhibits range from “Stemosphere,” for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math learning, to “Moneypalooza” for financial literacy and “Art Loft” for budding artists. Toddlers can explore their own pint-sized woodland adventure play area. “Sun Sprouts” is an outdoor garden, where kids can gain an upclose look at life in the earth, from worms to fresh produce, and play in a fort. Admission is $5 per person; children under 1 and members are admitted for free. The museum is open Monday 9 a.m.-noon, Tuesday-Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (open until 7 p.m. every Thursday and on the first Friday of each month.)
The adjacent Wells Fargo IMAX Theatre features a 3D-capable giant screen, where families view a range of movies from educational documentaries to Hollywood blockbusters.
