Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Theater in the North Carolina Museum of Art Park

Set on the grounds of the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Theater draws a range of visitors, from families for movies on summer nights to fans of singers, songwriters and musical groups for performances. Like the Museum Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park itself—which is filled with monumental sculptures that invite play—the theater’s large C-shaped sandbox invites guests to take their shoes off and enjoy the sand. Movies range from classics to new releases. In line with its playful design, the outdoor theater is located in the phrase “Picture This,” which is spelled out in 80-foot-long letters sculpted across more than two acres of the Museum Park’s landscape. In the amphitheater, choose limited reserved seating or lawn seating under shade trees in the summer, and pack a picnic for a perfect outing.
