Abolitionist John Brown staged his 1859 raid on the U.S. Arsenal here, setting off events that led to the Civil War. Today the park re-creates the era with 20 restored buildings. Hiking trails overlook the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers. Daily 8 a.m.-5 p.m. except major holidays. $10 per car, $5 per person arriving on foot/bicycle (valid for three days).
