The Best Burgers in Phoenix and Scottsdale

A guide to the brag-worthy burger bites in the Valley of the Sun

Fine-dining and quick-service establishments are putting their own spin on signature burgers. Diners keep coming back for more at these 13 eateries, which serve some of the best burgers in Scottsdale, Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun.

The Grind

The Grind is said to be the first restaurant in the U.S. to use a custom coal-fired oven capable of reaching 1,000 degrees. A wide range of juicy, hormone-free beef and chicken burgers are filled with hearty ingredients, including the peppercorn burger with potatoes, arugula and whiskey-peppercorn sauce, and the sweet-and-spicy burger with candied jalapeños and fried ratatouille.

Named for handcrafted beer (“hop”) and the Scottish nickname for cow (“Doddy”), Hopdoddy features a daily burger special and all-natural, often local ingredients including hormone- and antibiotic-free beef. Decadent shakes with daily churned dairy are also a must-order.

Pinnacle Grille

Pinnacle Grille lands somewhere between casual and fine dining, with a pleasant patio to relax on when the weather is nice. Patrons can select from house-specialty burgers or build their own, with familiar and uncommon burger ingredients beginning with 16 different patties (meat, fish and vegetarian options).

Stax Burger Bistro

Things are done a little differently at Stax. Instead of one sandwich, why not three? Or four? Perfectly created for the indecisive diner, three-ounce sliders encourage a variety of choices to round out your lunch or dinner plate. Sides and salads can be added.

The Capital Grille

This fine-dining establishment takes a gourmet turn on the classic burger. The Capital Grille offers four burgers on its lunch menu, with ingredients such as Gorgonzola, black truffle and 15-year-aged balsamic. And as for the meat, top-quality Wagyu beef is used.

You’re craving a burger but your other half wants sushi? No problem at Delux. All-natural, antibiotic- and hormone-free beef is piled high on burger buns while signature sushi and vegetarian rolls are delicately created for dine-in, take-out and late-night (open until 2 am daily) customers.

Feel as if you’re right in the pasture at Zinburger with its colorful blue-sky, green-grass and friendly cow wall art. Or, dine on the patio in the indoor-outdoor space. This wine-and-burger bar beckons return visits with its burger of the week, extensive happy hour, shakes, malts and truffle fries.

The Attic

Settle in for an afternoon on the patio, situated above a sandwich shop and overlooking Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood along Indian School Road. Beer lovers rejoice over The Attic’s wide selection of rotating craft brews on tap, and it only seems appropriate to order a burger: One was rated as one of the top 10 burgers in the world by theburgerguide.com. These monsters pack punches of flavors with juicy beef on perfectly crisp pretzel rolls.

A modern-day, fast and casual diner fits the feel of Burger 21. Order at the counter and wait for your name to be called—signature shakes, retro floats and the 21 burger options such as the Philly cheese and angus beef, buffalo chicken, ahi tuna, and black bean veggie are prepared in a flash for hungry patrons.

Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers

Just as the name suggests, brews and burgers are the feature at Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers. Along with 15 specialty burger options, 10 stadium dogs—paying homage to baseball fans around the country—are also on the menu. The Old Town Scottsdale location features built-in beer coolers at high-top tables, and the Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers food truck is taking its menu to the streets in the Valley of the Sun.

Rehab Burger Therapy

The beach-themed, break-from-the-daily-grind burger joint lists more than two dozen burgers on its menu, with some daring ingredient mash-ups like in the PBJ & bacon, spicy mac ’n’ cheese, and the Hawaiian burgers. Happy hour at Rehab Burger Therapy lasts all day on Thursdays.

Relish Burger Bistro

Relish Burger Bistro takes an upscale approach to burgers with toppings like pickled sesame cucumbers, red wine vinaigrette, tzatziki yogurt sauce and fried Brie. More than 70 premium brews are available.

Blu Burger Grille

How many combinations can nine burgers, seven cheeses, 50 toppings and 20 sauces make? Blu Burger Grille encourages creativity and nothing is too outrageous as long as the ingredients are on the menu.
