"Chill out" means more than just relaxing during summer in the Valley of the Sun. While poolside fun is always an option, there is also much to see and do. And while hiking the famous Camelback Mountain probably isn't top of the list, there are plenty of ways to be active, even as the temps soar.
Some of our favorite cool summer activities include indoor skydiving, playing at the new ice-filled Polar Play and learning to swim like a mermaid. All cool, indeed.
Experience the sensation of skydiving without jumping out of an airplane at iFly, an indoor skydiving facility.
Be a Mermaid
One of the newest crazes is all things mermaid—and here in the Valley, you can learn to swim like a mermaid at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale at Gainey Ranch with Aquamermaid or at Fairmont Scottsdale Princess (mermaid tails provided). Fin-tastic!
This new indoor attraction at OdySea in the Desert's entertainment complex offers the state's first ice bar and polar experience. The walls, bar—for those over 21—and benches are all made from ice, and guests (ages 2 and up) can play games such as shuffleboard, cornhole and checkers. Don't worry—the price of admission includes the use a parka and gloves! After exploring the icy cold, enter The Lodge and warm up by the fire.
Both Ice Den ice rink locations (Scottsdale and Chandler) offer public skate times where both novices and experienced skaters can take turns around the ice. Wear a jacket! Skate rentals available.
