Philadelphia in Bloom

The Philadelphia International Flower Show is an almost 200-year tradition, drawing flora lovers to the Pennsylvania Convention Center March 6 to 13 for a huge indoor celebration of landscape and floral design produced by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. This year’s show—themed “Springtime in Paris”—flourishes with hundreds of ways to engage in the show. The main event is the competitive floral exhibitions: Professionals create full-scale gardens and extravagant floral displays, vying for top honors. Additionally, almost 600 divisions compete with smaller displays, from miniature settings to pressed plants. Options for continued Flower Show amusement abound: Attend one of the daily gardening lectures, which cover such topics as flower arranging and orchid tending. Visit The Marketplace to browse wares from more than 150 vendors, including Boehm Porcelain and The Herb Lady. Dine during the twice-daily afternoon tea. Finally, relax with a glass of wine in the International Wine and Spirits Garden, which also hosts a wine-and-spirits store. Tickets range from $15 (for children) to $30 (for adults on opening day), and group rates are available.
