Versailles takes on a festive demeanour in the summertime. Every Saturday at 6.45 and 7.45 pm, take in the Royal Serenade in the Hall of Mirrors as the sunlight reflects its brilliance into the palace. Baroque musicians and dancers of La Compagnie l’Eclat des Muses take you back to the reign of Louis XIV and the balls of France’s Great Century. When night falls (on Saturdays) Louis XIV’s Royal Garden turns into an astonishing journey punctuated by sound, water and light. Musica Antiqua Köln performs sonorous French Baroque music under the direction of Reinhard Goebel, and a display of fireworks over the Bassin d’Apollon caps off a royal evening. From the Bassin de Latone to the Grand Canal, myriad surprises await as dusk falls and the grounds become enshrouded in a night filled with illuminations.
