Trinity River Audubon Center

Just a hop, skip and a jump south of downtown Dallas, the 120-acre Trinity River Audubon Center has become the "gateway" to the largest urban hardwood forest in the country. Take a stroll along the Audubon Center's five miles of walking trails (which include scenic skyline views of downtown), find your zen and explore three diverse ecosystems that are home to a multitude of wildlife throughout the Great Trinity Forest. The center also hosts guided kayak and/or canoe adventure tours (no prior experience necessary!) most Saturdays in the fall and spring, where outdoor enthusiasts can spend a few hours bird-watching, connecting with nature and imbibing the sights and sounds of the Trinity—from herons and egrets to beavers, butterflies, turtles and river otters.

Trinity River Audubon Center is located just ten miles south of downtown Dallas, where you will feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our center is your gateway to explore the amazing resources of the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest, the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States. Get to know a diverse community of plant and animal species and our unique mixture of bottomland hardwood forest, wetland, and prairie habitat. A part of the City of Dallas-Trinity River Corridor Project, the center's 130 acres and 5 miles of trails sit on a former illegal dump, now a reclaimed haven for a vast array of birds and other wildlife in an increasingly urbanized metropolitan area. Over 260 birds have been spotted at our center, making us a hotspot for birders of all ages and stages.

Trinity River Audubon Center is one of the flagship centers of the National Audubon Society, a non-profit organization. Our mission is to protect birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow, throughout the Americas using science, advocacy, education, and on-the-ground conservation. Come out for the day and hike on your own, or experience a special program or event.
