While in Queens, cinema lovers make sure to walk past KAS, the studio that has been in Astoria for over 90 years. It can be seen when visiting the Museum of the Moving Image, however there is no public access. The studio has produced over 100 silent films during the Silent Era of films, and today shows such as “Orange is the New Black,” “The Slap” and “Sesame Street” have been filmed in the studio.
Grab a bite to eat and listen to live music at the Astor Room, which was the original commissary at the studio. The restaurant has been redone and serves a mixture of classic American dishes and contemporary cuisine. Open Tu-Sa 5 pm-11 pm, Su 11:30 am-3:30 pm, 5 pm-9 pm.
