Clinton Hall: A Beer-Lover's Playground
Beer fans rejoice at this casual beer hall that pays homage to Castle Clinton, the first American beer garden in the 1800s. Clinton Hall offers a rotation of 20 draught beers and cider from the U.S. and around the world. At any given time, 10 beers are served to each of their sources’ precise specs thanks to advanced beer technology including an on-site “Flux Capacitor” that calibrates the nitrogen and carbon dioxide levels of each beer. Because the gas blend is carefully controlled, these beers are served consistently, every time.
Along with the 20 unique draught beers, Clinton Hall offers 20 different burgers, all which can be expertly paired. The extensive menu offers other gourmet takes on traditional beer hall food like sausages, soft pretzels and Parmesan truffle fries. Guests craving something sweet can try "Walter White’s Crystal Methadonuts"—fried homemade dough with blue sky sugar that come with three injectable sauces; Nutella, salted caramel and raspberry.
This popular FiDi beer hall is the perfect place to grab a pint and a burger for lunch, dinner or a late night snack. Clinton Hall also has a second location in Belmont in the Bronx that is open for dinner and late night shenanigans. Financial District, 90 Washington St., 212.363.6000; the Bronx, 601 E. 189th St., 718.2206400
Suite 36: A Sports Bar for All Kinds of Fans
Conveniently located a couple blocks from Madison Square Garden, Suite 36 is a great sports bar and lounge to stop at pre- or post-Knicks/Liberty/Rangers game. During football season, head here with a bunch of buddies to grab some drinks and catch the game on the venue’s big screen televisions, all while noshing on shared platters of wings, tacos, nachos, sliders and other eats.
Suite 36’s all-day menu has a generous selection of appetizers—coconut shrimp, truffled popcorn, avocado toast and lettuce wraps, to name a few—soups, salads, Pat La Frieda burgers, savory flatbreads, pulp salads, tasty tacos and desserts (like a warm chocolate chip cookie baked to order in a cast iron skillet and then topped with mint chocolate chip ice cream, yum). Lengthy beer, wine and cocktail lists will satisfy any adult beverage preference. For those looking to stick to something a little healthier, Suite 36 offers cold pressed juices, fresh fruit smoothies and juices, shots (of wheatgrass, ginger and a hangover helper of ginger, pears, lemon and cayenne peppers), pulp coffee and herbal teas.
Open until late at night, Suite 36 is a happening Midtown spot to head after work and on weekends for drinks and hanging out. With two floors of ample seating and standing room, it’s easy for a group to find space to relax and unwind. There’s also plenty of opportunity to mix and mingle. Midtown West, 16 W. 36th St., 212.695.0036
Slate: The Lure Group’s Trendy Night Spot
Look no further for an elegant and exciting one-of-a-kind nightlife locale in the heart of the Flatiron District. Slate is an upscale two-floor bar, lounge and club with an equally trendy dress code. A spacious dance floor, plenty of group entertainment games—pool, Ping-Pong, foosball and more—state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment with a nine-panel video wall and sleek décor make Slate stand out among other late night hangout options.
Elevated street fare perfect for sharing—or not—stands out on a menu that also includes sliders, salads and pizza. Snack on Mexican street corn with ancho-lime-spiked sauce and cotija cheese, or fresh fried cheese curds. Tuck into cheesesteak beignets, crispy fish tacos, mac ‘n’ cheese spring rolls and lump crab mini cupcakes. For a sweet treat, try the 21+ waffle—a warm Belgian waffle topped with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream, banana/Jameson syrup, whipped cream and a surprise on top. Classic and signature cocktails—along with red and white wine selections and seasonal beers—round off the menu, ensuring that there is a beverage for everyone’s tastes.
As the perfect spot to dance all night or unwind with some friendly competition over the pool table, Slate is open from 4 pm until midnight on Sunday through Wednesday, 2 am on Thursday and 4 am on Friday and Saturday. Flatiron District, 54 W. 21st St., 212.989.0096
