Despite its proximity to the Financial District, Battery Park City feels removed from the hustle and bustle of Lower Manhattan. Originally created in 1980 on a landfill and a set of dilapidated piers, Battery Park City has grown during its 50-year history into a vibrant community.
Where to Eat
This area takes on an almost-suburban feel on the weekends, as families come out to ride bikes, picnic by the river and dine at waterfront restaurants from some of the city’s top chefs. Pier A Harbor House is a relaxed large pub right on the water where you can enjoy craft beers and raw bar items while taking in the sunset. For Francophiles, there’s Le District a 30,000-square-foot French version of Eataly. The massive food hall offers gourmet restaurants, Parisian delicacies, wine and more. Sushi lovers shouldn’t not miss Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar with its fresh sushi and a famed oxtail fried rice.
Where to Shop
The neighborhood may feel removed from the energetic pulse of the city with its fewer shop options, but this quiet haven offers large, luxurious shopping centers as well as a few sophisticated boutiques. Brookfield Place, right across the street from the Freedom Tower, offers high-end shopping including Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo and more as well as fine dining and cultural arts. Pick up a few vintages as Vintry Fine Wines, a global wine boutique in a space-age showroom or stop in to Westfield World Trade Center shopping center for more luxury brands like Dior, Hugo Boss and Montblanc beneath the oculus.
Where to Drink
More than one-third of this largely residential 92-acre neighborhood is parkland, which offers an unbeatable ambiance for a calm, yet entertaining night. Blacktail is the place to go when you’re missing the warmer days of Summer. The retro Cuban-themed bar is complete with lush tropical foliage, island-style cocktails and classic seafood fare that are sure to transport you. Clinton Hall gastropub is the 2018 Food Network Burger Bash Best Burger winner and is also home to the Instagram-famous donut grilled cheese with tomato soup. The industrial-chic spot serves up several crafts on tap as well as oversized old-school games like Connect Four and Uno. Black Hound Bar and Lounge rounds off the list with a more intimate speakeasy feel offering lofty bar bites.

Battery Park City has several different paths to meander along while you discover the abundance of nature. Explore the city’s history through outdoor attractions, a mod carousel and the 9/11 memorial. The breathtaking One World Observatory boasts 360-views the from tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Take the kids to the luminescent SeaGlass Carousel, a fish-themed carousel in Battery Park that’s an immersive experience of movement, music and light. Finally visit the 0.5-acre Irish Hunger Memorial monument dedicated to raising awareness of the Great Irish Famine, in which over one million starved to death between 1845 and 1852.
