“A typical day for me is usually some combination of throwing a ball for my dog, hanging with my nieces and eating smoked fish. And going to Midtown: I love Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!”

“I love the Cloisters. I just find it to be a very beautiful, peaceful section of New York, right on the outskirts of Manhattan where you can take a little departure from the city. I like to dip into churches along the way. Obviously, there’s nothing like St. Patrick’s [Cathedral] for a nice recharge. My favorite restaurant is Marea near Columbus Circle. I go there particularly when lovely, rich friends take me. It’s expensive.”

“My favorite park is Riverside Park, next to the water. I prefer more quiet, tucked away places. Riverside Park has everything: a playground for the kids, the dogs can round around and play, it has the woods and a bike path. We are far more active here than we are back home [in Chicago].”

“I’m a bit of a coffee-aholic so I go to Brooklyn, Williamsburg, to get a coffee … there’s a lot of Australian baristas out there, not that I want to move amongst my own [laughs], but they do make a good coffee.”

“The energy of NYC beats to my rhythm. I also find that because there is so much shared space in NYC and so many public places, that all walks of life are rubbing shoulders much more than in LA ... we’re all in this crazy jar all shook up together. I love the [American] Museum of Natural History. In Central Park, I get a coffee and people-watch. I can eat my way through the city way too easily. I love Odeon in TriBeCa.”

“Going to Bar Centrale or Sardi’s after a show is something I miss when I’m not here. I love just strolling through Central Park. I love the subways; I think it’s the least frustrating way of traveling in New York, other than walking. And I love running into old friends and feeling like a part of the Broadway community. We don’t have that in Los Angeles.”

“I love the neighborhood aspect of Brooklyn, and none of my friends live in the city anymore, they’re all in Brooklyn, too. It’s great. We ride our bikes everywhere. There are amazing restaurants. There’s more sky and cool places. For dinner, I might I might so the Sunken Hundred in nearby Cobble Hill, whose Welsh cuisine appeals to my Cardiff-born husband [Matthew Rhys].”
