A Perfect Day in New Orleans: Mark Romig's Itinerary

Touring the town with the president of the New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Corporation.

The president of the New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Corporation, Mark Romig, shares his perfect day in the city.

8 am: The Sun Also Rises

“I enjoy the peacefulness of the morning, just as the city is waking up. Start at Café Du Monde on the riverfront, where you can witness the magnificence of the Mississippi River, or at Morning Call in City Park, which comes alive as the sun rises.”

10:30 am: Get Rollin’

“Take a midmorning streetcar jaunt. Not just along St. Charles Avenue, but along Canal Street as well. It will give you a sense of how the city has grown with transportation and of the various degrees of architecture, from the CBD to Mid-City to Uptown.”

Noon: Loafing Around

“For lunch you’ve got to go to Parkway Bakery and grab a po’ boy. I like fried shrimp, but then there’s the roast beef and Swiss. It’s all about the bread.”

2 pm: Life on the Mississippi

7 pm: Food for Thought

“We’ve got more than 1,400 restaurants in the city, so there’s no shortage of great food or craft cocktails.”

9 pm: A Little Night Music
