Style for Guys: Miami Gets Edgy

John Varvatos just entered the South Florida market, joining local designers pushing the edge in menswear

Miami is a rising star on the runway, especially for men's fashion. There's no better proof than menswear designer John Varvatos opening his 10th freestanding store right here in Miami on Lincoln Road.

The first store to open in the entire Sunshine State, the 2,200-square-foot store is also the third Bowery concept store to open in the country. Based on the original shop, the location boasts a brick interior, masculine red and black exposed brick walls, black crystal chandeliers and dark wood flooring. With rock ’n' roll decor such as hand-signed band photography (the largest collection in any of Varvatos' stores), fine-art prints and trinkets found in Paris filling the walls, fashion and music are married seamlessly.

"I have been looking for a certain location in Miami for my Bowery NYC concept for several years, and we have finally found the perfect spot on Lincoln Road," Varvatos said. "Miami is a wonderful community with a great fashion spirit. That coupled with it being a travel hub/gateway to Western Europe and South America makes it a perfect fit." Collection, Star USA and Converse by John Varvatos are available in the South Beach store.

What guy doesn't have more button-up shirts than he knows what to do with? No longer relegated to business suits, the issue of having dress shirts hit too low when untucked with a pair of sleek jeans has plagued guys for years. Enter UNTUCKit, which created a line of shirts that are just the right length—falling between the belt and the bottom of the zipper—and cut for a more casual look. New York Rangers hockey player Brad Richards was picked for the face of the line which sports more than 30 plaid, pinstripe and gingham shirts at its online store.
