Blue-Plate Special

Arguably the oldest eatery in the city (dating from 1919), The Arcade has been around long enough to see the neighborhood come back around again. A favorite hangout for residents and visitors in the popular South Main district, it’s a step back in time; the original diner décor has been kept intact and in the family (it’s now run by the grandson of the founder and his wife). Featured in movies, including “Great Balls of Fire,” “The Client” and “21 Grams,” the Arcade also boasts its Elvis legacy and other celebrity visitors. Besides plate-lunch specials and all-day breakfast offerings, it serves pizzas, sandwiches, salads and milkshakes.
