The works of two major Australian artists come together in a new exhibition at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia. “Baldessin/Whiteley: Parallel Visions” surveys the careers of George Baldessin and Brett Whiteley. Both artists were born in the same year, 1939, and achieved great success in the 1960s and 1970s. Featuring over 120 important works, highlights include Whiteley’s “The American dream”, 1968-69, an immersive painting spanning over 20 metres in length , and Baldessin’s “MM of Rue St Denis” series, 1976, which transposes the figure of Mary Magdalene into the streets of Paris. The exhibition is open daily from 10am-5pm.
