A Quick Guide to South Yarra

Find the best in the Melbourne suburb of South Yarra, one block at a time.

Shop

Known for its high-end offerings, South Yarra is a hunting ground for covetable local boutiques. All mirrored walls and glittered stairs, Le Louvre is a luxury boutique where you can find one-off investment pieces from brands such as Balmain, Gucci and Saint Laurent. For statement accessories, check out Dinosaur Designs. Founders Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy met at art school, an education that they now apply to bright, textural jewellery and homewares made from resin.

Drink

If you're after something different, South Yarra is full of one-of-a-kind experiences. Shadowboxer is a cocktail and wine bar opened by Melbourne hospitality legends. Almost everything in the venue is custom-made by local design firm Fiona Lynch. The sun-soaked balcony is perfect for afternoon oysters and a stonefruit spritz. Conversations, cocktails and culinary delights are specialties of Talk To Me, a neon-lit, Asian-inspired bar opened by chart-topping electro musicians Peking Duk. Continuing the Asian theme, Bosozoku HQ is a biker-inspired burger and sake den that is a mash-up of gourmet style and fun-loving weirdness.

Bake

Melbourne's best bakers seem to flock to South Yarra. Tivoli Road Bakery is equally adept at churning out mouthwatering sweets and savouries. Don't go past their sausage rolls or custard-pumped donuts. The design of Baker D. Chirico is just as impressive as its crusty sourdough and crumbly biscotti, while Q Le Baker is famous for its signature mortadella sub.
