A Perfect Day in Melbourne According to An Expert

The Westin Melbourne chief concierge Steve Ciric shares his tips on the best things to do in the city.

Do you have a favourite rooftop bar?
My favourite CBD rooftop bar is on top of Curtin House on Swanston Street. You can opt to climb the seven flights of stairs or take a lift up to Rooftop Bar. Outside the CBD, I enjoy Naked in the Sky, located on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, which has wonderful views of the city.

What would you say is Melbourne's best market?
Aside from the iconic Queen Victoria Market, I am a big fan of South Melbourne Market, which opened in 1867. I visit the market regularly on the weekends and it’s wonderful to casually stroll along the stalls and food halls. Note the market is closed on Monday and Thursday.

Where do you go to escape the heat in summer?
We are expecting another very hot summer this season. My suggestions include venturing indoors and exploring one of Melbourne’s many art galleries and museums, going to the movies or—if you are adventurous—visiting our ice-skating rink located in Docklands.

What would be your perfect day in the city?
Start the day by visiting coffee houses such as Brother Baba Budan, Patricia Coffee Brewers and Chapter House, then explore Melbourne’s laneways and arcades. I’d also pay a visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. There is so much to see and do in our marvellous city and, if you visit your friendly concierge, they would be delighted to assist.

What has been the most exciting opening of 2019?
Harry Potter & The Cursed Child” is still playing at Princess Theatre. There was also “Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality” at the NGV.
