To Market, to Market

Michael McCarty, owner of Michael’s in Santa Monica, and Mikey Stern, its chef, continue their monthly Michael’s Market Meet-Ups series March 23. Guests gather at the restaurant, known for its elevated California fare, legendary patio, art collection and wine list, for cappuccinos and house-made cinnamon buns at 8:30 am, then head to the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmers Market two blocks away. There, they learn more about produce of the season, and tips for navigating the market. McCarty introduces participants to his favorite farmers and shows how he picks the best ingredients. Back at the restaurant, McCarty and Stern pay homage to a particular ingredient of the season with specially created dishes and wine pairings; they recently focused on beets. The $60-per-person fee includes the repasts, recipes and a copy of McCarty’s latest book, “Welcome to Michael’s: Great Food, Great People, Great Party!”
