With its glamorous casinos, hotels, fine restaurants and shows, the Las Vegas Strip can entertain anyone. But if you’re looking for something new, Where recommends checking out these off-Strip destinations for a great day trip:
VIDEO: 3 THINGS TO DO BEYOND THE VEGAS STRIP
morning: Red Rock Canyon
Just west of Las Vegas lies Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Visited by more than a million people each year, this is a great place to learn about the desert climate, get some exercise and gaze at the striking natural beauty of the red sandstone peaks.
afternoon: The Hoover Dam
On the other side of Las Vegas lies the world-famous Hoover Dam. Many hotels and tour operators run shuttles throughout the day to this man-made spectacle, so don’t worry if you haven’t rented a car. Once at the dam, explore the area by yourself or jump on a tour that covers the power plant or the dam itself—or both.
Evening: Fremont Street
If you’re looking to venture beyond the Strip and don’t want to go too far, then head uptown to the Fremont Street Experience. It has the same life and pizzazz of the Strip but in a more manageable size. This is where Vegas' first casinos were (and are) located.
