Jasmyn Lam has spent 34 years in Las Vegas, "The majority of my life," she admits. Here the concierge at Wynn Las Vegas shares some of her top tips for the perfect vacation in Las Vegas.
Tell me about one of your favorite places to send first-time Vegas visitors.
Rent a chauffeured car and take a scenic drive down the Strip. Start at the iconic Welcome to Las Vegas sign for a photo op, make a stop at the High Roller and end up at the drive-through wedding chapels downtown for a real feel of all that Las Vegas has to offer.
I want to update my Facebook photo. What should I have in the background of my selfie?
Wynn nightlife is known for its renowned celebrity DJ lineup. Dress to impress when attending any one of the property’s three venues—XS, Intrigue or Encore Beach Club—and get a selfie with The Chainsmokers, Diplo, Kygo or any of your other favorite DJs on the roster in the background.
Tell me about your favorite hidden gem in Las Vegas.
The Space is a community-driven charity-based arts complex that is supported by headlining entertainers. Aside from the fantastic people watching, they offer a large variety of comedy acts, jazz performances and much more. Frank Sinatra’s granddaughter even revives many of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ hits in her shows.
Where should I eat if I want to celebrate a special occasion? How hard is it to get a reservation while I’m in Las Vegas?
Costa di Mare is an absolute go-to for a romantic evening or special occasion, especially when you dine al fresco in a private cabana overlooking the lagoon filled with Koi fish. The selection of fresh fish and langoustines is unparalleled in the city. You can find more than forty varieties of fish delivered daily from fishermen throughout the Italian coastline. I’ll take care of making the reservation for you!
What’s the most unusual request you’ve had as a concierge? What about the craziest request?
This was crazy in terms of how special it was to be a part of; I once arranged a private helicopter tour for a certain celebrity musician and his fiancé with champagne, roses, and even a private landing spot at the Grand Canyon. The experience was so appreciated, he wanted to gift me tickets to his show!
Who is your favorite Las Vegas celebrity chef?
Mark LoRusso at Costa di Mare is a local favorite. He gained his notoriety by working directly under celebrity chefs such as Thomas Keller, Charlie Palmer and Michael Mina. His commitment to sustainable seafood drives him to great lengths to source quality ingredients and his daily presence in the kitchen allows the menu to change frequently based on the freshest, seasonal ingredients and latest culinary trends.
I want to experience classic Las Vegas. Where do you recommend that I go?
Downtown is the place to be! Visit stops like The Mob Museum, The Neon Museum, Fremont Street Experience, The Golden Nugget and The Four Queens. Not only will you learn a lot, but it’s such a fun outing with a group of friends.
Where do you like to do some people-watching in Las Vegas?
Downtown Las Vegas, hands down. It’s like a box of chocolates—you never know what you’re gonna get, but you will always be entertained.
What’s the must-see show in Las Vegas right now?
"Le Rêve – The Dream" at Wynn Las Vegas. Voted the “Best Show” in Las Vegas seven years running, the aquatic production recently completed a two-year evolution and now features all-new costumes, music and choreography. Just like every dream is never exactly the same, the production is new and exciting to watch each and every time! Plus, with an international cast of more than 93 athletes and performers from 17 different countries, you will never cease to be amazed by their incomparable talent.
What tips do you give first-timers?
Take your time, and please, wear comfortable shoes! Everything looks a lot closer than it actually is when you’re walking down Las Vegas Boulevard. I also recommend taking a day to experience nature in Las Vegas, like Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire State Park. There is so much beauty in this city that you can’t find anywhere else.
Describe your perfect evening out in Las Vegas.
My perfect evening out is nothing extravagant, and is always composed of the same three things—good food, good wine and good music, like a dueling piano set or live band. With my husband or a group of friends, a night at The Barrymore restaurant is just perfect; I could spend all night there.
