Top Concierge Shares His Secrets to a Great Vacation in Las Vegas

Make the most of a trip to Las Vegas with these top concierge tips

Jones Tantoco has spent the last 17 years in Las Vegas, now working as a concierge at the Delano. He has some top tips for getting the most out of a trip to Las Vegas.

Tell me about one of your favorite places to send first-time Vegas visitors.

I usually recommend the Fountains of Bellagio. There is nothing like seeing them in person. The Fountains of Bellagio were destined to romance your senses. Take in a spectacular show of thoughtfully interwoven water, music and lights designed to mesmerize its admirers. It's my stress reliever as well and the best part is it's free!

I want to update my Facebook photo. What should I have in the background of my selfie?

It would be either the view from Skyfall Lounge at Delano and Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay.

Tell me about your favorite hidden gem in Las Vegas.

Battista's Hole In The Wall. I like the old-time Las Vegas atmosphere, memorabilia and enjoy the authentic Italian food and especially the free house wine with dinner.

Where should I eat if I want to celebrate a special occasion? How hard is it to get a reservation while I’m in Las Vegas?

Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. I had the best experience when we celebrated our anniversary there. We had a table by the patio and the best view of the Fountains of Bellagio. The food was amazing and you can bring your own wine bottle as well.  Must book in advance and must have patience when requesting the patio tables outside.

What’s the most unusual request you’ve had as a concierge? What about the craziest request?

The most unusual request was when a guest wanted to take a limo ride from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and back the same day.  The craziest I know was a guest who wanted to borrow my colleague's shoes to go up to Foundation Room.

Who is your favorite Las Vegas celebrity chef?

Chef Hubert Keller! I'm so lucky that I met him at his restaurant and became friends. He is an amazing, kind, generous, sincere and down-to-earth celebrity chef. He always invited me to his birthday every year in his house and we eat all the delicious amazing food he prepares.

I want to experience classic Las Vegas. Where do you recommend that I go?

I recommend to go to downtown Las Vegas and see the old hotels and The Mob Museum. You will see how the mob helped build Las Vegas and how they become famous. It's very interesting to see part of history.

Where do you like to do some people-watching in Las Vegas?

I go to Fremont Street for sure! I love watching the bands and the street performers. Also, at Daylight Beach Club and Encore Beach Club

What’s the must-see show in Las Vegas right now?

There are a lot of must-see shows in Las Vegas, but I usually recommend "Michael Jackson One" and it never disappoints. I have seen it four times and it always amazes me how good it is. Plus, I'm a fan of MJ.

Describe your perfect evening out in Las Vegas.

My perfect evening will start with a nice dinner at Mon Ami Gabi with a table on the patio looking over the Fountains of Bellagio and a bottle of wine. Then walk down the Strip to watch a headliner show currently in town and dance the night away to Hyde or Foundation room. Then, end it with a happy ending eating an oxtail soup at California Hotel.
