Concierge Shares Tips for a One-of-a-Kind Stay in Las Vegas

Shows, brunches, views and more for every agenda

Mark Miller grew up in northwestern North Dakota and made the move to Las Vegas 40 years ago. For the past six years, he's worked as a concierge at Mandalay Bay and the Delano, and just recently was admitted into Les Clefs d’Or. Here he shares some of his favorite places to send tourists when they visit Las Vegas.

Tell me about one of your favorite places to send first-time Vegas visitors.

One of the most amazing places in Las Vegas is Skyfall at Delano. Skyfall offers one of the most breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Strip and beyond. Framed by the mountain ranges that surround us, one can enjoy spectacular sunsets and moments to be cherished.

I want to update my Facebook photo. What should I have in the background of my selfie?

How about a Komodo Dragon or a Black Tip Shark? You will find them both at The Shark Reef.

Tell me about your favorite hidden gem in Las Vegas.

Andiamo Italian Steakhouse serves some of the most amazing, delicious food in Las Vegas. Check it out at The D.

Where should I eat if I want to celebrate a special occasion? How hard is it to get a reservation while I’m in Las Vegas?

There are so many great restaurants in Las Vegas. My wife and I have a favorite spot for those special occasions. Charlie Palmer Steak at The Four Seasons offers a romantic setting and on Monday they have a jazz trio in for some beautiful background music. Check out their “Cut of the Week” with unlimited wine pairings.

What’s the most unusual request you’ve had as a concierge?

Many requests that used to seem unusual are now normal everyday requests.

What about the craziest request?

We once had a guest that desired to have an elephant at their birthday party. We made it happen but it was not inexpensive.

Who is your favorite Las Vegas celebrity chef?

Charlie Palmer.

Do you have a favorite brunch you like to recommend to guests?

I do. Border Grill brunch on Saturday and Sunday offers poolside seating, delicious selections off a menu (as much as you would like), family-style serving and unlimited mimosas for few dollars more.

I want to experience classic Las Vegas. Where do you recommend that I go?

There is no place like The D and Fremont Street downtown for your Las Vegas experience. For a show that gives you a bit of the history of Las Vegas, "Vegas. The Show" at Planet Hollywood will fill that bill.

Where do you like to do some people-watching in Las Vegas?

Some of the most eclectic people occupy Fremont Street every evening below the Fremont Street Experience. There is always a show going on Fremont Street.

What’s the must-see show in Las Vegas right now?

"Michael Jackson ONE." It is 90 minutes of audio and visual sensory overload.

What tips do you give first-timers?

Drink lots of water and even though the hotels look close, they are not. See Bellagio and a Cirque du Soleil show.
