Expert Tips on the Best Las Vegas Has to Offer

This concierge at Aria knows where to eat, what to see and which shows to visit

Mildred Schneidman, a concierge at Aria, packed up her truck and moved from Pasadena to Las Vegas after the Rose Bowl Parade in 1994. Here she shares some of her favorite experiences that she tells every guest to try in Sin City.

Tell me about one of your favorite places to send first-time Vegas visitors.

I love to send my guests to visit the Fountains of Bellagio. It is an iconic spot here in Las Vegas and every guest should have the opportunity to take a picture there to have for memories for years to come.

I want to update my Facebook photo. What should I have in the background of my selfie?

The famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign.

Tell me about your favorite hidden gem in Las Vegas.

Horseback riding at Bonnie Springs and Red Rock Canyon’s beautiful hiking trails are both some of my favorite activities throughout the city.

Where should I eat if I want to celebrate a special occasion?

Bardot Brasserie here at Aria offers an incredible French dining experience that guests will not want to miss out on. Guests are always raving about their brunch.

How hard is it to get a reservation while I’m in Las Vegas?

I always recommend that visitors book at restaurants in advance, but our concierge team is always available to assist with reservation needs.

What’s the most unusual request you’ve had as a concierge?

I always strive to meet every guest’s requests and work hard to make their visions come to life. I once had a guest ask that the room they were staying in be transformed into only white décor for a themed visit, including walls and all decoration. With the help of my team I was able to make it happen.

What about the craziest request?

As I stated above, Aria’s concierge team really works hard to fulfill our guest’s wishes. We once helped a bachelor party obtain a chimpanzee dressed in a tuxedo to be a part of their weekend adventures.

Who is your favorite Las Vegas celebrity chef?

There are so many great chefs in Las Vegas that I truly enjoy and respect. Michael Mina has it all and offers an array of cuisines on the Strip including seafood, steak and French.

I want to experience classic Las Vegas. Where do you recommend that I go?

Downtown. I always recommend that visitors take a stroll through The Mob Museum or The Neon Museum, followed by a nice dinner at Oscar's Steakhouse overlooking Fremont Street while enjoying beverages at his (secret) Speakeasy Lounge.

Where do you like to do some people-watching in Las Vegas?

Fremont Street Experience is so unique to Las Vegas and allows people to experience local artists and performers, taking photos with Vegas Vic (the cowboy neon sign) and more. It is a great place to people-watch as individuals zipline overhead on Slotzilla.

What’s the must-see show in Las Vegas right now?

There are so many headliners in Las Vegas such as Bruno Mars, Ricky Martin, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Celine Dion and more. Las Vegas has become an entertainment Mecca and guests can actually see headliners almost every night. For a different type of show, Cirque du Soleil currently has seven great shows in Las Vegas as well.

What tips do you give first-timers?

It is so important for future visitors to get in touch with their property’s concierge team. We have information that many people may not know about and have great relationships with partners and vendors throughout the city.

Describe your perfect evening out in Las Vegas.

My perfect evening in Las Vegas would be a night full of art, culture and entertainment. I would kick it off with an early afternoon at Richard MacDonald’s gallery titled The Art of Richard MacDonald, and watch him work to experience his vision come to life from beginning to end. I really love his Cirque du Soleil anatomy pieces and ballerinas/dancers. After the gallery I would enjoy a romantic dinner prepared by one of my favorite chefs in the city, followed by a night out to see my favorite headliner Jennifer Lopez at Planet Hollywood.
