Waimea Canyon

Nicknamed “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” this chasm of rugged cliffs and deep valley gorges at first appears as though it should be calling a desert climate its home, and not the lush island of Kauai. However, the cascading 800-foot Waipoo Falls and the dampness in the crisp air flowing through the canyon serves as a reminder of its tropical milieu. Rusty hues of red, brown and purple wash over the valleys, which were carved by the ancient rivers and floods that flowed from the rains atop Mount Waialeale’s summit. Marvel at Waimea Canyon’s beauty at one of the numerous lookouts and hiking trails.
