James Beard's Top Tastes Reheated

Foodies, rejoice! The Taste America tour travels from coast to coast this fall. Here's what you need to know:

The time to travel is here for any chef, home cook or self-proclaimed foodie, and it’s making its way across the nation this fall from the East Coast all the way to the west. The James Beard Foundation is bringing back its Taste America tour, first offered in 2007, with stops at 10 different locations across America, including New York City, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Chicago. On select weekends this September through October, not only will you savor in the usual delights of these top-notch culinary cities, you’ll find your unique chance to taste each location’s cuisine at its very best. The tour, backed by Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa Signature, aims to celebrate, nurture and honor America’s diverse culinary heritage by helping educate the population about our varied and individual range of local cuisines.

Each stop features a two-day food festival that any bon vivant, chef or plain old food lover will salivate over. The wide range of events featured, from free cooking exhibitions to exclusive gala dinners, is part of what makes the Taste America tour so different from any other food festival. Specific details vary by city, but each location will offer free cooking demos hosted by one or more Taste America All Stars—such as Ted Allen, Michael Voltaggio or a fellow James Beard award-winning chef. These Taste America All Stars have been specifically chosen to highlight the local cuisine of each city. They will show off techniques and offer tastings as well as sign cookbooks, host panel discussions and sponsor giveaways.

Throughout the weekend at the city’s local green markets, shopping malls and parks, the Taste America vehicle will sponsor pop-up events that promote regional foods and healthy eating habits for the general public. The festival will culminate in a high-end gala beginning with cocktails and ending with an exclusive dining event featuring a menu tailored to each location by Taste America All Star chefs. Some of the proceeds from this dinner will go to benefit a local charity, so you will really be able to enjoy every bite.
