Timucuan National Park - Ribault Monument

Located at Fort Caroline National Memorial, the monument sits atop St. Johns Bluff and provides a commanding view of the St. Johns River. On a clear day, you can see the Atlantic Ocean and Mayport Naval Station 5 miles to the east, and river activity, wildlife and the marshes below. Built in 1924 to commemorate the 1562 arrival of French Huguenot Jean Ribault, who died defending Fort Caroline from the Spanish, the monument reminds visitors of the European colonization a half-century prior to the Plymouth Colony.
