Iolani Palace

The only official royal residence in the United States, ‘Iolani Palace is an elegant reminder of the grandeur of the Hawaiian monarchy. Meticulously restored to its former oppulence, this National Historic Landmark in downtown Honolulu tells of a time when their Majesties, King Kalākaua, who built the Palace in 1882, and his sister and successor, Queen Lili‘uokalani, walked its celebrated halls. Walk in the footsteps of royalty on a docent-led or self-guided tour and marvel at the unique architecture. Outfitted with electricity and telephones before the White House, the Palace, with its royal regalia, gothic-revival furnishings, deep Hawaiian woods, portraits of visiting dignitaries and artifacts, is a potent reminder of a significant time in Hawaiian history.
